Preliminary plans call for the construction of a new aquatics center including swimming pools, locker rooms, administrative space, and associated support facilities. The latest potential site plan for the center (which O’Neil emphasized was preliminary and subject to change) is for an indoor 4-lane, 25-yard lap/ programming pool; an outdoor eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool; and an outdoor leisure pool. The primary site identified and considered by the EDC is across Drummond Avenue from Burroughs High School and behind the park. The indoor pool would be used for swim lessons, lap swim, water fitness, and recreational swimming, according to Dienes’ presentation. The outdoor leisure pool would have a zero-beach entry, children’s play structure, lazy river, crossing activity, open-enclosed body slides, and a tot pool. The plan also included support spaces such as lobby/control desk, offices, locker rooms, family changing rooms, parent viewing room and mechanical/storage. As of February 23, 2023, This is a City Project thus will not go to commission. A site plan has not been developed as of yet. The project is slated to break ground Q4 of 2023.
