Demolition, site work and new construction of an educational facility in Tacoma, Washington. Completed plans call for the construction of a educational facility.

Project includes providing Design/Build (D/B) services for the replacement of Downing Elementary School. The alternate Public Works contracting procedure authorized in RCW 39.10.300 through 39.10.330 will be utilized for this project. This project will utilize the Progressive Design/Build delivery method. Firms with previous design/build experience or experience using a similar alternative construction delivery format are encouraged to apply. During the project, the Design/Builder will receive overall direction from designated representatives in the Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) Planning & Construction Office and will work as a member of a team to achieve project objectives. In addition to staff from the TPS Planning and Construction Office, this team may include representatives from other District departments, the Design/Build Consultant (Parametrix), other district consultants and members from the community. The existing Downing Elementary School facility is currently occupied and will remain occupied and fully functional during construction. The original school is circa 1948 and has had additional buildings added and additions made over time. The current total building area of the existing school is 60,698s.f.. The new facility will be designed to house 450 students and will be phased construction. The existing building will be vacated at some point during construction and will be demolished as part of the contract work. The design and construction budget for this project is approximately $31,576,355. This is a proposed project that would be funded under a capital bond that is anticipated to go before the voters in February of 2020. Contracts for this work would not be executed unless the bond is approved by voters. The District will sponsor a Construction Trades Networking Event at Downing Elementary School, 2502 N. Orchard Street, Tacoma WA. The date/time for the event has not yet been determined, but it will be clarified by addendum to the RFQ. The purpose will be to familiarize potential contractors, subcontractors and suppliers with the District's Community Inclusion Commitment and allow venue for firms/companies interested in working on District projects an opportunity to meet, network and market themselves to one another.
