Demolition, site work, new construction, renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in Raleigh, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the addition of a museum; for the renovation of a museum; for the demolition of a museum; for site work for a museum; sidewalk / parking lot; parking garage; and for the construction of a 190,000-square-foot museum.

As of February 8, 2022. This project is currently under constrcution. A constrcution timeline is yet to be confirmed as well as a confirmed general contractor. The Museum of Science & History announced Friday the selection of Balfour Beatty and Stellar as a joint venture to lead construction management for the MOSH Genesis project. According to a release, Balfour Beatty and Stellar will oversee all vertical construction for the $85 million project, which will bring a new museum to the Shipyards East area on the Northbank of downtown Jacksonville. Plans for the new Museum comprise 130,000 square feet for exhibitions, programs and events along with space for the planetarium. Balfour Beatty has delivered several museum projects, including the Perot Museum of Nature & Science and the Perot Family Turtle Creek Legacy Hall Museum in Dallas; the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia; and the North Carolina Museum of Art expansion in Raleigh. Additionally, the firm has experience leading construction projects in Northeast Florida, such as the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center; the terminal expansion project at Jacksonville International Airport; and Jacksonville University's new basketball performance center. Stellar, a Jacksonville-headquartered design-build company, has more than 35 years of experience in design, engineering, construction and mechanical services. Past projects include the Hale Koa Ilima Pool Renovation, Shades of Green at Disneyworld Renovation, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and bestbet Jacksonville gaming center. "Our Board of Trustees and Genesis Oversight Committee were extremely impressed by Balfour Beatty and Stellar's depth of experience in Northeast Florida. After reviewing proposals from numerous teams through our competitive process, we were particularly interested in the complementary nature of Balfour Beatty's national experience and Stellar's local roots," said Bruce Fafard, president and CEO of MOSH, in the release. "Their combined approach demonstrated a holistic understanding of our visitor experience plan, both within our building and across the broader Sports and Entertainment District." The DIA's board provided unanimous approval for MOSH to proceed with the land disposition process for a four-acre parcel at the Shipyards East during its Jan. 19 meeting. The museum's new building will be constructed on a 2.5-acre section of that property. Estimating and budgeting will begin in February, with construction commencing in 2023 following all necessary site approvals through the DIA and City Council. ____________________________ As of October 21st, 2021. This project is currently on hold. This project is for the renovation and expansion of the existing 199,642sf NC Museum of History Building originally completed in 1992 at 5 East Edenton Street in Raleigh. The scope of the project will include renovation and expansion of the existing museum facility as PHASE I as well construction of a new addition and below grade parking deck to the east of the museum in the current surface parking lot bounded by Wilmington Street, Jones Street, Blount Street and Edenton Street as PHASE II. Total Construction Cost is currently estimated to be approximately $200,000,000 which includes renovation and expansion of the existing museum, construction of the new museum addition and associated site development. The total project cost is estimated at approximately $295,000,000 which includes design fees, construction management fees, escalation and contingencies. The existing 199,642 SF Museum of History which was completed in 1992 has begun to outgrow its mission and functional requirements. An Advance Planning package has been completed to look at the options for both expanding and renovating the existing museum as well as constructing an addition across the street to support the various programming requirements to support the growing need for additional gallery space, educational classrooms, and special event, conference, restaurant and support space. The site for the proposed museum addition is currently a parking lot with a residence located on the southeast corner of the block which will remain. All new construction will occur on the remaining portion of the block. The new building will house approximately 190,000 SF of gallery space, educational space, a new auditorium, support services space, a restaurant and a conference center. A pedestrian bridge over Wilmington Street will connect the new addition to the existing museum structure. The remainder of the site will support a below-grade parking structure, outdoor interpretive activities as well as a new drop-off area for students and other groups that regularly visit the museum. The Fee for Preconstruction Services is based on a percentage of the overall anticipated construction cost. For this project, the maximum percentage of the Cost of Work has been reasonably determined by the Owner and State Construction Office to be 0.25%. Estimated CMR PreConstruction Services: $ 500,000 Expected Date of Completion of Design Mid-2020
