Demolition, new construction, renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Working plans call for the addition of a 14,500-square-foot, two-story above grade stadium; and for the renovation of a stadium.
Redevelopment in a design/build mode of the existing 99-year old facility as a modern multi-use community hub preserving the historic facade and two NHL-sized ice pads. The new facility will be equipped for sledge hockey, versatile concourse between the two ice pads, 14,500 sq ft multi-purpose space providing recreation and support to the arenas, connected to local streets, biking and walking network, and on site parking. TIMELINE: Design of the project is underway and is expected to wrap up through 2027. In late September 2026 the City staff paused the heritage demolition application following the project cost projections that climbed higher than current council approval cost of $126 million and is approaching $150 million. The owner is re-evaluating the project, exploring potential federal partnerships. Further update early to mid-2027.
