The need for modernizing this 52-year-old facility has been identified in previous editions of the CIP. Chesapeake Public Schools commissioned an architectural firm to conduct a facility condition inspection for all facilities over 30 years old which had no previous major building modernization. Western Branch Middle School was included in this report. The result of that report concluded that the facility is in need of a major modernization project and is in the early part of the school modernizations queue with design work scheduled to begin in 2019-20. Is it important to note that a necessary HVAC partial replacement project was completed in the fall of 2015 and a partial roof replacement was completed in the fall of 2016. As of February 13, 2023, this project is currently in the FY 2023-2027 CIP . Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction Fy 2023. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
