High Point High School completed a Feasibility Study in 2014 with a conceptual design option recommendation for a Maximum Unoccupied Renovation, which was Board of Education approved. The study will encompass the entire High Point High School campus comprised of the main comprehensive school building, the stadium, athletic fields, parking lots, bus and parent drop off. The educational specfications was based on 2,450 comprehensive students and 50 regional special educaton students. The educational program was based on smaleer learning campuses or career academies such as Engineering & Sciences, Environmental Studies, Homeland Security and Miltary Science and Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. This feasibility study also included outdoor learning spaces and a sustainable design. The cost of this conceptual design recommendation would cost $241,185,488 based on 402,871 sqaure feet, which includes all soft costs and anticipated escalation to start contruction in the Fall of 2024. In an attempt to reduce costs and use as much of the exsiting structure as possible, the revised conceptual desing option that will reuse 290,000 square feet of the exsiting building and the addition of 130,000 square feet for a 3-story classroom, new main gymnsium and a connector from the new main gymnsium to the exsiting auxilary gymnsium. This conceptual design option will require the demolition of the 1-story section of the building aproximately 30,000 sqaure feet. The FY22 CIP was approved by the County for the 1st Installment of the design funds in the amount of $8,000,000. The FY23 CIP request is for State planning approval with construction anticipated to begin in the Fall of 2027. Construction funds will be requested in FY28 and future years after the prior major projects are completed funded This project is included county's FY 2023 - 2028 Capital Improvement Plan.
