Site work, renovation and addition to an educational facility in Scarborough, Ontario. Design plans call for the addition of a 14,000-square-foot, two-story above grade educational facility.

Construction of a six-classroom addition to replace the existing portables over a paved area at the southwest corner of the building. A new multi-purpose room will be part of the addition. It will be located adjacent to the gymnasium allowing it to function as a supporting space to the gymnasium. The addition will include change rooms and gym storage/support space that does not currently exist at the school. At the height of two-storeys, the addition is harmonious with its surroundings, but with a slightly elevated sloped roof to highlight the building as a community node. The interface with the existing building is slightly challenging in that existing building systems may not be able to support the additional square footage. To this end, a separate remote heating, ventilating and air conditioning system (HVAC) is proposed. TIMELINE: Ministry approval to proceed was secured summer 2023. The zoning approval was secured October 2022, the owner is seeking city of Toronto site plan approvals. Detailed design is ongoing. Working drawings are expected spring 2024 for completion summer/fall, 2024. The owner expects tender will be issued late summer, 2024 with construction to begin late 2024. The pre-design was completed by KMA.
