Construction of a Transitway with stations that include parking and access connections paralleling Hwy 407 west from Brock Rd to Hwy 35/115; this section will include between six and eight park and ride stations, bus platforms, and associated facilities as well as the Transitway. The 23 km central segment of a transitway facility located along the Highway 407 corridor through York Region, from east of Highway 400 to Kennedy Road (407 Transitway). The 407 Transitway includes stations and an operations, maintenance and storage facility. Subject to the outcome of the study, the 407 Transitway will be implemented initially as bus rapid transit (BRT) with the opportunity to convert to light rail transit (LRT) in the future. This 23 km segment is the priority section of the 150 km long high-speed interregional facility planned to be ultimately constructed on a separate right-of-way that parallels Highway 407 from Burlington to Highway 35/115, with stations, parking and access connections. This transitway is a component of the official plans of the stakeholder municipalities and of the Province's commitment to support transit initiatives in the Greater Golden Horseshoe through the Metrolinx Regional Transportation Plan. TIMELINE: The Environmental Assessments (EA) is complete. The 407 Transitway was identified in the Metrolinx Big Move in 2021, for tender for design-build consortia. No current schedules or dedicated funding associated with the future construction/implementation of any portion of the 407 Transitway are determined. Further update early 2025.
