Site work and new construction of a civil project in Delta, British Columbia. Working plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and road / highway.
Construction of the Fraser River Tunnel Project includes a new, 2,625 ft long, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel that will replace the existing George Massey Tunnel on Highway 99. The new tunnel will have three vehicle lanes and a dedicated transit lane in each direction, with a separated active transportation corridor for cyclists and pedestrians. The project also includes: -Replacing the Deas Slough Bridge; -Removing the existing tunnel once the new immersed tube tunnel is in operation. TIMELINE: The BC government is terminating its deal with the design-build consortium it had selected to replace the aging George Massey Tunnel beneath the Fraser River in Metro Vancouver. The B.C. Environmental Assessment Office is expected to complete its review of the project by late 2026 and major construction is set to start in 2027. Owner will retender the work with a procurement strategy aimed at strengthening competition and allowing for more local contracts. Further update in fall 2026, upon approval. *Project Budget: $4.15 billion
