Site work and new construction of a civil project in Delta, British Columbia. Working plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and road / highway.
Construction of the Fraser River Tunnel Project includes a new, 2,625 ft long, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel that will replace the existing George Massey Tunnel on Highway 99. The new tunnel will have three vehicle lanes and a dedicated transit lane in each direction, with a separated active transportation corridor for cyclists and pedestrians. The project also includes: Replacing the Deas Slough Bridge; Removing the existing tunnel once the new immersed tube tunnel is in operation. TIMELINE: A revised procurement strategy is underway for the project. Major construction is anticipated to start in 2027. Requests for qualifications for the first two work packages were followed under separate reports as: Fraser River Tunnel Project (GC-2 – North Cut & Cover, North Ramp) and Fraser River Tunnel Project (GC-1 - Immersed Tube Tunnel, South Cut & Cover, South Ramp). The successful companies are anticipated to be selected early 2027. Procurement of the remaining three work packages will occur in 2027. *The BC government had terminated its deal with the previous design-build consortium it had selected to replace the aging George Massey Tunnel. *Project Budget: $8.5 billion
