Renovation of a power facility in Revelstoke, British Columbia. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a power facility.
Supply and installation of a 500 megawatt unit in the existing empty Unit Six bay; construction of a new capacitor station west of Summerland; upgrades to the existing Nicola sub-station; exposed steel penstock; vertical shaft Francis turbine with a maximum discharge capacity of 400 cubic metres per second; umbrella type generator; generator transformer, switchgear and associated equipment; additional mechanical and electrical equipment; contractor's offices; parking and lay down areas; aggregate storage. Location: On the Columbia River, 5 Km N upstream of Revelstoke, BC. TIMELINE: An Environmental Assessment Certificate was issued for the project in 2018 by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy and the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. There is currently no set schedule for construction as Revelstoke 6 is a contingency project. Construction on the project would take just over three years. The project is being planned for 2029; the owner is currently revisiting the timing in their 2021 Integrated Resource Plan, and an announcement on new timelines is expected in the next few weeks. An update may be available in late fall, 2025.
