Proposed consolidation of six (6) municipal substations to single substation connecting the Town to the provincial 138kV transmission system. The Town's electrical grid is currently configured with six (6) separate interconnections with Nova Scotia Power Incorporated's (NSPI) 25kV distribution ring around the Town. Consolidating the existing interconnection points to a single substation off the 138kV transmission system will improve the reliability of the Town electrical grid and allow for significant electrical load growth, particularly in the heating and transportation sectors. Phase I: New Substation and 25kV Circuits to Existing Substations: Development of a new 40 MVA substation complete with all power distribution, protection, SCADA equipment necessary to meet utility design standards. Phase II: Modify/Upgrade 8C and Distribution Reconfiguration: Modify substation 8C to accommodate additional load and grid reconfiguration. Convert all existing 4kV circuits to 25kV, replace dual voltage transformers to 14.4kV/25kV Phase III: SMART Meter Deployment Deploy SMART meters for residential demand management and EV adoption to develop non-wires alternatives allowing increased automation, communication, and integration with the electric utility. TIMELINE: Request for Proposals from project management services closed at the owner in spring 2023. The awarded proponent has not been released for publication. Scope of work included project planning & initiation and oversee design development, contractor procurement & tendering. The owner is currently seeking approvals from the UARB.
