Development of the Mississippi River Greenway (MRG) in Rosemount closes a gap to provide a 25-mile connection between South St. Paul and Hastings. Completion of the MRG in Dakota County will not only provide a signature recreational experience and alternative transportation option for residents, but will also play a key role in advancing the creation of a regional- and national-scale destination trail. This project is currently undergoing design and engineering (D&E) with construction planned for 2022. As D&E has progressed, the total project cost estimate has increased resulting in this request for supplemental project revenues. The project is included in the county’s 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of January 24, 2022, the design is 100% complete. The tentative bid schedule for contractors has not been determined. Construction is slated to begin late Summer 2022; however, the firm date has not been established. Development of the Mississippi River Regional Trail (MRRT) in Rosemount closes a gap in the planned trail to provide a full 25-mile connection between South St. Paul and Hastings. Completion of the MRRT in Dakota County will not only provide a signature recreational experience and alternative transportation option for residents, but will also play a key role in advancing the creation of a regional- and national-scale destination trail. The MRRT Rosemount East segment, the subject of this request, is approximately 1.8 miles with the potential for multiple grade separated road crossings. As of September 20 2021, design and engineering are in progress. Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction FY 2021 and 2022. A firm timeline has not been established, but work is anticipated to be finished in 2022. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
