This project will be split in three phases with the first phase being land acquisition, followed by two phases of construction. The second phase of this project will construct the initial public access/parking off Old Courthouse Way and first section of trails on the City-owned property along the Stoney Run watershed between Old Courthouse Way and Denbigh Boulevard. With the third phase completing the construction of the trails, parking and other passive interpretive and recreation amenities. Project is in City of Newport News capital budget FY 2025-2029. As of July 18, 2025, per owner, while funding has been allocated to this project, it is not in an active planning status and it’s currently uncertain whether this project will be moving forward or the funding will be reallocated. This will likely not be determined for some time. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
