Site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Sioux City, Iowa. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel.
This project will construct a grade separation on 18th Street over the railroad tracks between Floyd Boulevard and Steuben Street. Storm sewer upgrades and trail additions from the proposed viaduct to the Floyd River levee will be included as part of the area improvements under a separate construction contract. The proposed project will include a new 500-foot long bridge spanning the Union Pacific Railroad and Canadian National Railway railroad tracks. A segment of Hawkeye Drive and Illinois Avenue will be realigned to improve intersection geometrics. As part of the final design of the 18th Street Viaduct, the Hoeven Valley Transportation Plan will be updated to reflect completed projects in the corridor. This project will allow for the elimination of multiple rail/vehicle conflict locations, and allow for expansion of neighboring businesses both in facility and with their rail switching and storage operations. As of June 2, 2023, per the city engineer this project is not moving forward at this time.
