Site work and new construction of a parking garage in Arlington, Texas. Completed plans call for the construction of a five-story above grade, 1,500-space parking garage.
The University of Texas at Arlington seeks to construct a new cost effective but durable parking garage to provide parking for students, faculty, staff, event patrons, and visitors to the University. The garage will be located on an existing parking lot, Lot 33, at the comer of UTA Boulevard and W. Nedderman Drive, one block west of S. Cooper Street. As envisioned in the university’s approved Campus Master Plan (May 2007), this parking garage will reduce the amount of surface parking lots from 111 acres to 56 acres to make better use of the campus land. This parking garage will be designed with a 1,500 car capacity, including a small UTA Police Department satellite office, and anticipated to be a 5-level parking structure. The garage shall have 9 foot wide parking spaces, and to the fullest extent possible angled spaces to create one-way traffic flow. Ramps may be straight inclined, with two-way traffic and straight-in parking on either side. Respondents should visit the College Park District garages to see examples of this arrangement. Circular (helical) ramps are not preferred. It is anticipated that the elevation facing UTA Boulevard and the elevation fronting W. Nedderman Drive, will include additional architectural elements to “soften” the project’s impact along this edge of the campus, in accordance with the Campus Master Plan. This garage is scheduled to start construction in January of 2017 and be completed within 9-12 months thereafter. The anticipated Construction Cost Limitation (CCL) for this project is $25,260,000. The University realizes there are various design alternatives, including poured-in-place, post tensioned, precast, and/or a hybrid design. The University is looking for the most cost effective design approach to meet the required delivery date.
