Site work and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in West Sacramento, California. Design plans call civil work for a bridge / tunnel.

Description: Construction of a new bridge to replace the I Street Bridge that crosses over the river to connect Sacramento and West Sacramento. Described as both a lift and arch bridge, it will have three auto lanes, bike lanes and walkways for pedestrians. Trains will continue to use the lower deck of the existing bridge while the upper deck might become a pedestrian walkway. Location: North of the current bridge, the new bridge will link Railyards Boulevard in Sacramento to C Street in West Sacramento. As of November 8, 2022, the $16 million state grant still has to be formally approved by the state Transportation Commission. The Sacramento Area Council of Governments previously awarded the project $3.6 million to complete the final design and right-of-way phase. An additional $19 million in outside funding has been secured. Final Planning and construction could be ready to begin in or before 2026. The project is expected to be completed by late 2027/ early 2028. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
