BC Hydro announced it has has identified a new leading alternative for its West Kelowna Transmission project – connecting through FortisBC’s system – to provide an additional source of clean power to Westbank First Nation, West Kelowna, Peachland and parts of Summerland. Construction of a secondary transmission line to deliver power to West Kelowna and Peachland. Three options are being considered for development. Option 1 - a new transmission line west of Okanagan Lake connecting the Westbank Substation to the Vernon Terminal Substation. Option 2 - a new transmission line from Nicola Substation to Westbank Substation using a different route than the existing transmission line. Option 3 - a new transmission line, including a submarine cable across Okanagan Lake, connecting Westbank Substation to the FortisBC system. TIMELINE: Project is in the feasibility design phase. Advancement to the Identification phase is anticipated by the end of 2026. The procurement process is anticipated to be approximately two years away. Further update in early 2027.
