Saving Project...

Site work and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in L'Anse au Loup, Newfoundland. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; and for site work for a bridge / tunnel.

Construction of a fixed transportation link across the Strait of Belle Isle. An 16-kilometer, single-rail tunnel drilled between 25 and 110 meters below the seafloor will link Newfoundland with Labrador. That tunnel would close the transportation loop in Atlantic Canada and Quebec. TIMELINE: Plans are conceptual and dependent on funding from various levels of government A Public-Private Partnership (P3) is being considered in order to facilitate the project. In August 2021, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the provincial government and the Canada Infrastructure Bank in order to explore the technical and financial requirements (per the already completed studies) and determine what the next steps to move the project forward should be. Further update may be available late 2024. Budget is an estimate.
