Demolition, site work and new construction of a civil project in Cincinnati, Ohio. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; and for site work for a road / highway.
Plans call for the replacement of the Western Hills Viaduct. Although it is considered structurally safe despite increasing deterioration, it also is functionally obsolete and has reached the end of its design life. The preferred replacement is a long span, double deck structure on an alignment immediately south of the existing viaduct. Construction is expected to last from 2021 to 2028, with design and engineering, coordination with the railroads below in the Queensgate Yard and site preparation, including right-of-way acquisition, building demolition, utility relocation and foundational supports for ramps constructed in the next four years. The City of Cincinnati hired Walsh Kokosing Joint Venture in 2023 to serve as the project construction manager at risk. The project is currently in the preconstruction phase.
