Widening of Highway 401 from the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road interchange easterly to 5 km east of the Highway 62 interchange. The design will accommodate a widening from four to six lanes in the interim, and an ultimate widening from six to eight lanes. This undertaking takes into consideration the proposed location of the Belleville East Arterial Road interchange (BEAR) and includes improvements to the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, Highway 62 and Highway 37 interchanges and seven existing structures, including: Highway 401 Wallbridge-Loyalist Road Underpass (Site No. 11-157); Highway 401 Highway 62 Underpass (Site No. 11-160); Highway 401 Sidney Street Underpass (Site No. 11-161); Highway 401 Moira River Bridge (Site No. 11-162); Highway 401 CNR Overhead (Site No. 11-164); and Highway 401 Potter Creek Culvert (Site No. 11-316/C). TIMELINE: Preliminary design stage is complete & is undergoing a procurement ready study which will refine the preliminary design further, engaging utility companies for necessary relocations, addressing property requirements, and permit requirements. The procurement ready study is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025. Timing for the start of detailed design has not been decided at this time but is not likely to start until the procurement ready study is completed. Construction is not expected to start prior to 2036.
