Renovation of a municipal facility in Blacksburg, Virginia. Design plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
In 2012, the Blacksburg Division of the Montgomery County Circuit Court moved from the Municipal Building to the new Courthouse in Christiansburg. The vacated space on the second floor was originally designed to serve as a library for the community. When the court moved into the space, it was remodeled to provide administrative space including offices, meeting rooms and a customer service area. The second level of the space has been used for storage of various records and includes a storage system. The intent of this project is to renovate the former court area into a space that meets the needs of the municipal organization. The project is broken down into three phases: programming, design and construction. The most critical phase of the project is the programming phase because it will identify the Town's space needs and an estimated construction cost based on the identified needs. The project includes $36,000 for programming and design and $500,000 for construction. The estimate for construction is a very preliminary estimate based on general square footage costs without knowing what the uses will be. A more precise estimate will be available after the programming phase is completed. Project is included Town of Blacksburg Fiscal Year 2024-2029. As of July 15, 2024, project is in design with architect identified. Project is estimated to start Summer 2027 and be completed Fall 2029. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
