As of September 4 2024 this project started on august 16 2024 Albuquerque-based FacilityBuild is expected to finish the project in under two years, according to a news release. Once complete, the new community center will feature a fitness center, multipurpose room, mini-gymnasium and a new play structure outside of the facility. This final phase of the development was initially delayed due to rising material and labor costs, Gallegos said. Phase one saw the construction of the main facility, including a computer lab, game room, offices and restrooms, which were completed in 2015. "Construction for phase two should have started last year, but was delayed until funds could be secured to complete the project," Gallegos said. Overall, the City of Albuquerque's main goal for the project is to create safe "third places" for families — locations outside of home and work where people can connect with their community and socialize, according to the news release. “The city is creating places for families to connect with their neighbors and get the services they need,” Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller said in the news release. “These places are more than just community centers, they can be the home away from home for folks of all ages to help spend time with their friends and create safer neighborhoods.” ____________________________________________________________________ The project calls for the addition of a multi-purpose room with a warming kitchen and fitness room and possibly a mini gym. As of July 26 2024, this project is in working drawings complete and in permits will be done by one of the city on call contractors.
