The current inlet canal is constructed of an earthen and rock dam on the north fork of the Rito Morphy into the intake and leaks too much water during a drought. As a result, it does not fill up the lake during dry periods. Phase 1 includes Planning and Design would include gathering field information, conduction archeological studies, producing design blueprints and obtaining NM Environment Department (404) Permits, Historic Preservation approval and US Army Corp of Engineer permits if required and will be completed June 2020 at a cost of 250,000. Phase 2 includes the installation of the canal lining and will cost 1,200,000. Acequia de la Isla will now pursue funding for planning, design, and construction with Capital Outlay Once funding is secured procurement code will be followed to put the project out to bid. As of July 6, 2021 no new CIP issued, this project is currently in the FY 2022-2026 CIP . Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction Fy 2022. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2022. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
