Site work and paving for a road / highway in Wilmington, North Carolina. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
As of March 26, 2019, the project is currently under construction. The design/ builder for the median portion of the projet has been identified but the road construction contractor has not been identified. Work has begun to improve the look and function of Eastwood Road between Bretonshire Road and Cavalier Drive. This is a voter-approved 2014 Transportation Bond project that has been combined with a privately funded project to better coordinate the work and get it completed more quickly. Crews will begin by clearing areas adjacent to the road. Once the road work starts, it will occur primarily at night with some overnight single lane closures between Bretonshire Road and Cavalier Drive. No daytime closure are expected and the adjacent Cross-City Trail is expected to remain open throughout the project. When complete in the middle of next year, the project will consist of a new landscaped median between Bretonshire Road and Cavalier Drive, a new traffic signal at Autumn Hall Dr, intersection improvements at Rogersville Road, and a new roundabout on Rogersville Road, where it will connect with Autumn Hall. These improvements will be coordinated with planned developments in the area and NCDOT improvements at the Eastwood/Military Cutoff Road intersection expected to begin within the next two to three years. Autumn Hall, Inc. will be responsible for completing the design and construction of medians for the portion of this project between St. Mark Church and Rogersville Road, and the city will reimburse for 100 percent of the construction cost up to $1.3 million. In addition, the city is jointly funding a traffic light at the intersection of Eastwood Road and the driveway of St. Mark Church with Autumn Hall, Inc., St. Mark Church and Mayfaire II, LLC. d. Improvements to limit left turns on Eastwood Road This busy corridor is a primary route for traffic to Wrightsville Beach. Improvements include a median with traffic signals and u-turn areas along Eastwood Road between Cardinal Drive and Military Cutoff Road. Right turn lane on Racine Drive at New Center Drive Another future project planned for this area is adding a right turn lane on southbound Racine Drive. This will help reduce backups along Racine Drive, particularly during peak hours and provide safer access for pedestrians, bicyclists. This project will happen at a future date and is not part of the Eastwood Road improvement project. Benefits: Relieve congestion of cars waiting at traffic light at intersection of Eastwood and Military Cutoff Road Increase safety and improve traffic flow by limiting left turns Ease traffic flow without significant cost and inconvenience of widening the road *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources. The content management team continues to pursue additional details; however, the contact(s) listed have yet to disclose or confirm any information.
