The purpose of this Request for Proposal ("RFP") is to invite Proposals from professional, qualified and experienced firms to select a Proponent to provide progressive design build services for the redevelopment of the James Cowan Theatre wing (new theatre and studios wing at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts). The Design Builder will bring progressive design build expertise to assist the owner, the City of Burnaby ("City") through the various phases of the James Cowan Theatre Redevelopment Project (Project), as identified in this RFP. Documents can be obtained from https://burnaby.bidsandtenders.ca/ Design and build a new theatre and studios wing largely within the original building footprint. The design will include but not be limited to: i. 34,835 sq ft, 365-seat theatre with flat floor including retractable seating and balcony/mezzanine; ii. Control room, stage lighting and sound equipment; iii. Acoustic design for live performances and other meeting / gathering use; iv. Accessible seats, stage, and essential facilities; v. Moderate sized program amenities for dressing rooms; Bid values are undisclosed. vi. 4 arts program studios (visual arts, theatre and literary), Encores café and prep area, front of house box office, universal washrooms, maintenance rooms, storage and production offices; vii. Adequate access to the existing Shadbolt Centre, garden area, main entrance, parking lots and Deer Lake Ave; viii. Conceptually integrated with the rest of the Shadbolt Centre through architectural elements and design; ix. Off-site works, utility relocations, utility improvement and tie-ins as required; and x.
