The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) operates and maintains nine (9) Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Facilities. The primary function of the CSO Facilities is to screen, settle, skim, and disinfect combined sewer/storm water during rain events before Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) NPDES permitted CSO discharges. These CSO Facilities play a vital role in keeping combined sewer water out of residents of the City of Detroit's basements.
