The University of Southern Mississippi Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Architectural and Engineering Services RFQ 19-14 Mississippi-licensed architects and engineers are invited to provide written statements of qualifications of their professional services for a project at The University of Southern Mississippi, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Cedar Point campus, located in Ocean Springs, MS. The project is titled "Invertebrate Growout II Renovation." Following selection of a design team, the successful candidates will complete programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, specifications cost estimate, and provide management and support from bid advertising through project completion.
The Invertebrate Growout II Renovation project has not been programmed; however, a broad description of the project could potentially include the following:
- Demolition of sections of existing structures;
- Programming and design of new structures and building, not to exceed 20,000 square feet;
- Design complementary of existing campus architecture precedents;
- Coordination of design and implementation of Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Communications / Data / Security systems as required;
- Connection into existing University infrastructure;
- Design of recirculating aquaculture systems for broodstock conditioning, spawning, incubation and larval rearing of molluscan shellfish;
- Design of microalgal culture systems to include clean room, stock culture room, analytical lab, preparatory room, scale-up room, and production room to
accommodate photo-bioreactor and bag culture systems; algae system design must include microalgae mass culture systems, specifically photo-bioreactors which
require both medium sterilization and harvesting systems;
- Compliance with ADA regulations and all other applicable building and fire code requirements, and elevations as necessitated by the design solution;
- Overall site design to potentially include parking lot and/or landscaping work; and,
- Coordination with the Mississippi Institutions for Higher Learning (IHL) and their associated processes. As of February 17, 2023, Building #CP105 which was to be used for this project is expected to be removed from the campus inventory and is to be demolished due to substantial damage caused by Hurricanes Zeta and Ida. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
