This Geotechnical Evaluation Report addresses the proposed design and construction of additions and site improvements to Irondale High School, located in New Brighton, Minnesota. The project will include the construction of an auditorium addition along the southeastern edge of the existing building and a district office space on the southwestern portion of the building. The construction of the auditorium addition will require temporary shoring consisting of tiebacks and a shotcrete wall with helical piers. The district office addition will require the use of lightweight geofoam along a portion of the existing wall to prevent overloading of the wall. There will also be a classroom addition on the west side of the existing building. The northern portion of the existing interior courtyard will also be partially filled in for another classroom addition. Finished floor elevations in the auditorium addition and district office addition will range from 898.5 to 907. Finished floor elevations in the western classroom addition will be 907. Finished floor elevations in the courtyard classroom addition will range from elevation 909 to 911. The existing pool will also be filled in as part of this project. Site work will include reconfiguring three site entrances from Long Lake Road, reconstruction of the south parking lot, reconstruction of the loading dock area, and construction of a new parking lot east of the existing tennis courts. A retaining wall will be constructed between the tennis courts and the new parking lot and another retaining wall will be constructed by the new loading dock. The height of those walls is anticipated to be up to 10 feet. Proposed stormwater improvements include an underground system beneath the southern parking lot, potentially below the new east parking lot and expansion of the existing stormwater basin in the eastern portion of the site. Stormwater improvements will have structure or system inverts within 10 feet of existing surface grades.
