This is not a solicitation for proposals and no contract shall be awarded from this synopsis. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Galveston District, is requesting input from government, industry, and others parties for an upcoming dredging project. The Corpus Christi Ship Channel, Texas Channel Improvement Project Contract 2 - Lower Bay Reach is a project that proposes the deepening and widen the existing channel, rehabilitation of an existing placement area (PA 6) and creation of two new partial confined beneficial use placement areas (BU I and BU CQ). Dredging from station 7+000, just bay side of the Port Aransas Ferry Landing to station 70+000, some 11.9 miles through Redfish Bay, past the La Quinta Junction and partially into Corpus Christi Bay. The contract involves the complete clean out (maintenance material) of the existing channel 47 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW)) template and the construction (new work) of the new channel 54 feet MLLW template. The maintenance material from the existing project template is estimated to generate 1,108,254 cubic yards (CYDs). The construction of the new deepening and widening of the channel (authorized depth and advanced maintenance) is estimated to generate 8,751,508 CYDs, with allowable over depth estimated at 2,002,982 CYDs. The construction of the PA 6 will involve raising berms and constructing shoreline stabilization. The beneficial use areas involve berm construction with hydraulic fill which would be allowed time to consolidate and then armored. The estimated completion time for this contract is 810 calendar days. The dredging plant type is not being specified for this Request for Information.
All geotechnical information the Corps has is displayed on the project plans. Interested parties are requested to address the following items in their response: 1. Based on the proposed plan shown, what means of construction would you likely employ
2. What can we change in the plans and specifications to reduce cost and/or durations
3. What are the biggest risks you see in the proposed plan and how the Contractors would propose mitigating the risks
4. What type of equipment do you have access to too perform this project
5. Based upon the provided geotechnical data and your expertise, what percentage of dredge material would remain where placed (retention) during hydraulic berm creation Also include information such as: Company name, address, e-mail, telephone number, and points of contact. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
