Renovation of a mixed-use development in Ames, Iowa. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a power facility; and water / sewer project.
The recent National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requires the Power Plant to perform a greater degree of treatment to the water discharged to the storm sewer from the cooling towers. The Power Plant is currently performing an effluent monitoring study as a part of the permit as well as exploring options for treatment. The likely solution will be to redirect the discharge, currently going in the storm sewer, into the sanitary sewer. The project is included in the city's 2021-2026 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of May 19, 2021, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified.* *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
