Site work, renovation and addition to a library in Parksley, Virginia. Completed plans call for the addition of a 8,000-square-foot library; and for the renovation of a 12,837-square-foot library.
The project includes renovation of an existing building and construction of a new addition to house the new Eastern Shore Public Library. The existing building is a onestory high bay abandoned grocery store, approximately 12,600 SF in size. Construction is a steel frame and bearing wall structure with a storefront facade. Full renovation of the existing building will house staff, service, study rooms, and adult and children reading areas. New approximately 8,000 SF addition features a flat roof with architectural cornice. Exterior envelope is masonry veneer with cast stone trim on metal stud backup and steel framing. The new addition will house the service desk, gallery, lecture hall, teen area, restrooms and Eastern Shore Room with archives. New mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems will be provided throughout. Civil scope includes revision to existing site access, green space, and some new parking. Occupancy will be A3 Assembly with Type IIB Construction.
