https://www.dallasnews.com/news/transportation/2021/08/03/downtown-irving-will-get-long-awaited-revamp/ Aug 03, 2021 Downtown Irving will soon get a major facelift, with bicycle lanes, access to public transit and expanded sidewalks. Construction is scheduled to begin in October on a one-mile stretch of Irving Boulevard, between Sowers Road and Strickland Plaza, which the city said in a press release will improve walkability and "reenergize the downtown center." Irving City Council awarded a $22.2 million construction contract for the work last month. The project -- which has been in the works for several years -- includes four Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus stops, additional parallel parking spots, new benches, canopy trees and street lamps with LED lighting. Improvements to drainage, water and wastewater systems are also included. Work is expected to run through 2023. Irving Boulevard reconstruction is part of the city's long-term vision to draw residents, visitors and businesses to the downtown Heritage District.
