(AP) -- The U.S. Interior Department has awarded a nearly $84 million contract for a water pipeline in northwestern New Mexico. The pipeline is part of the larger Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project that's been in the works for several years. It will deliver San Juan River water to more than 40 Navajo Nation communities, the Jicarilla Apache Reservation and the city of Gallup. The latest contract awarded to a Roanoke, Texas, company includes 30 miles of pipeline between the Navajo communities of Little Water and Naschitti. The work is scheduled to begin in January. The overall project includes 280 miles of pipeline, water treatment and pumping plants, and storage tanks. Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said Thursday that most of the work on the main line is either complete or under construction. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ NGWSP 4c-8: Starts approximately at pumping plant 3, estimated 20 miles South of Shiprock, along east side of US 491 approximately 29 miles South and terminates in the Naschitti Chapter Boundary, approximately 43 miles North of Gallup. Provide: Approximately 29 miles of 42-48 inch water transmission pipe including all; valves, air valves, and blow-offs, wash crossings, horizontal directional drills, jack and bore crossings, materials, personnel, equipment, labor, management, etc. to ensure a turnkey project is furnished to Reclamation IAW the specifications and drawings. Safety monitors, quality control personnel, and full-time surveying required, see specifications and preface documentation. Per the Reclamation Acquisition Regulation (RAR) - WBR 1436.204 - Disclosure of Magnitude - the estimated magnitude of construction is (d) More than $100,000,000.00. The deadline for questions and answers is hereby extended from close of business July 9, 2019 to close of business July 19, 2019.The Government anticipates releasing the amendment answering submitted questions no later than August 2, 2019.
