The Contractor will be responsible for demolition, removal and off-site disposal of the existing timber pedestrian bridge. All components of the existing bridge, with the exception of the concrete foundations which may require minor modification, are to be demolished. The existing cobblestone aprons at each end of the bridge may also require removal and resetting to accommodate proper construction of the new bridge. The proposed pedestrian bridge shall be constructed of an engineered lumber structure and plastic lumber handrail system and decking as detailed and specified on the Contract Drawings. The Contractor shall construct the bridge in the field. Available staging areas will be provided within the Wampus Brook Park. The Contractor shall maintain safe and adequate pedestrian access through the park at all times. Specifically, access from the Maple Avenue parking lot and park entrance to the south end of the pond and trailway around the east side of the pond must remain open to pedestrians. Limited closure of sections of this trail may be permitted only after prior approval by the Town.
