The City's seawater desalination project consists of the technical feasibility, plant site selection, conceptual life-cycle delivery cost, regulatory and permitting criteria, procurement methodology, and design and construction of a municipal seawater desalination facility in Nueces County. On April 2020, the City Council approved the submission of an application for a low interest loan from the State for the design and construction for the Inner Harbor seawater desalination plant. Funding was approved in July 2020 and in August 2020 City Council approved the draw of funds for design, RFQ, RFP, land, permits, environmental, legal, power, contingency, and extension of owner’s representative agreement for the Inner Harbor. This project continues into the long-range plan as project LR3. This project is included in the city’s fy 2025-2027 Capital Improvement Program.
