NCDOT's grand plan to combat Crabtree Valley Mall congestion Long-awaited change is coming to the I-440/Glenwood Avenue interchange in Raleigh, as the North Carolina Department of Transportation analyzes options to decrease commuter pain near Crabtree Valley Mall. Working with a budget of $237.1 million, NCDOT is accepting public comments on multiple proposals for the corridor. This week, it unveils seven design concepts. Right now, it's too early to show the full impact of the designs - including what businesses they might impact. On the current timeframe, the project will be bid out to contractors in 2025. Construction could begin a year later for what's expected to be a three to four year project. A lot of possibilities are on the table, including constructing auxiliary lanes on both sides of I-440 between Glenwood Avenue and Lake Boone Trail. The project also includes improvements at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Blue Ridge/Lead Mine roads and the replacement of the bridge on Blue Ridge Road over Crabtree Creek. Per the owner, as of July 1, 2019, three design teams have been selected. Owner states that this project is scheduled for design-build in 2025. Owner states that no real design work will be done until 2025. They are only doing concept designs for public input.
