Renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 13,932-square-foot fitness / recreation center; and for the addition of a 13,856-square-foot, one-story above grade library.
The Valley Park project involves three major components of work at the existing community centre at 970 Paramount Dr. in Hamilton, Ontario: a. New library addition b. Recreation centre interior renovation c. Facility Mechanical/Electrical improvements and Building Envelope upgrades with existing Parking Lot resurfacing The new library addition will be a 1,283 square metres (M2) state of the art addition that includes full service library with lobby, reception, open seating areas, book stacks, Makerspace rooms, quiet rooms, multipurpose rooms, administration work area, media sorter, staff areas, shipping/receiving, washrooms, and service rooms including a mechanical penthouse. The addition will be registered under the LEED Version 4 New Construction and Major Renovation (LEED v4 BD+C) rating system with an anticipated Certification Level of Gold. The contractor, subcontractors, suppliers and manufacturers are required to participate to achieve LEED certification. In order to support the new library addition, the incoming power to the building is to be revised including a new electrical transformer along with a new solar photovoltaic array on the roof of the library. This project also includes an approximately 1,290 M2 renovation to the existing one-story Community Centre. The scope for this portion of Work includes, but is not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, interior renovations for new an administration space including reception, programs rooms, washrooms, open seating areas, and service rooms with selective demolition and structural alterations. LEED designation is not applicable. The existing arena and pool/aquatic areas of the building are to receive a complete replacement of Mechanical and Electrical systems including BAS services. Exterior cladding, roofing, and envelope repairs/replacement are to be undertaken around the building. Resurfacing and restriping of the east parking lot is required.
