Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Apex, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.
This project widens the existing Apex Peakway from a two-lane median-divided road to a four-lane median-divided road. Peak hour traffic exceeds the existing roadway's capacity, so this widening will reduce queue lengths and delays. Without it, the road will continue to cause longer delays, make access difficult for commuters and emergency vehicles, cause more drivers to divert to other local routes, and increase congestion elsewhere. As of February 12, 2025, this project is included in the Town of Apex Fiscal Year 2025-2029 CIP. Further information regarding a design firm has not yet been established. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and end in 2027. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
