Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Apex, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.

This project widens existing Apex Peakway from a two-lane median-divided road to a four-lane median-divided road. Peak hour traffic exceeds capacity of the existing roadway so this widening will reduce queue lengths and delays. Without it, the road will continue to experience longer delays, making access difficult for commuters as well as emergency vehicles while causing more drivers to divert to other local routes and increasing congestion elsewhere. Until the state TIP widens Center Street/Ten Ten Road beginning in 2029 as currently programmed, this project may still not address backups at Center Street. However, this widening should be constructed prior to or during the Peakway Southeast Extension project regardless of the states schedule for widening Center Street. As of August 22, 2024, a feasibility study is being done. This project is included in the Town of Apex's 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and funding is allotted for FY 24-25 and FY 25-26. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
