Maryland Parkway is a vital corridor for the Las Vegas Valley, extending from McCarran International Airport to downtown Las Vegas, and connecting many high-activity centers, such as University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), The Boulevard Mall, Sunrise Hospital, as well as commercial and residential areas. Investments in transportation infrastructure could improve mobility and safety along the corridor for all users, including motorists, transit riders, bicyclists and pedestrians and enhance access to the surrounding areas. The RTC Board of Commissioners voted to move forward with the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) option in April 2019, and the Federal Transit Administration issued the Finding of No Significant Impact in December 2019. The Maryland Parkway BRT route is being developed to provide light rail like service, but with buses. The project will include enhanced transit stations and dedicated lanes, upgraded pedestrian crossings, bike lanes and wider sidewalks, median landscaping and public art. The preliminary design for public review and input is expected to be available in summer 2021, and the final design completed in late 2022. As of January 27, 2021 this project is in design.
