Construction of a new East Side Branch Library (ESBL) at the existing RIM Park Manulife Financial Sportsplex and Healthy Living Centre (i.e. Sportsplex), located at 2001 University Avenue East, Waterloo. The Sportsplex is the City of Waterloo's largest facility at approximately 320,000 sq.ft and was opened in 2001. This multi-function facility is a vital asset to the City and hosts a wide variety of community services, such as: ice hockey, figure skating, basketball, soccer, athletic programs, banquets, and more. Construction of the new Branch Library addition, called the East Side Branch Library (ESBL), will enhance the community services offered at RIM Park. The ESBL will be the Waterloo Public Library's (WPL) fourth location and is envisioned to be a modern Branch Library. 1. Construction of the new ESBL addition on the south-east side of the existing Sportsplex. The ESBL is a single-storey building (including a small upper-level mechanical/electrical room), with a total floor area of approximately 15,500 sq.ft. This consists of approximately 13,000 sq.ft of new floor area, as well as approximately 2,500 sq.ft of renovated Sportsplex area. 2. Modifications to the existing site adjacent to the new ESBL. This will generally include alternations of the parking lot, site services, exterior lighting, pedestrian routes, landscaping, and more.
