Development of a new hub of community life which connects the downtown civic centre to a mixed use space that provides a retreat to gather, socialize, relax, entertain, and create while maintaining and elevating the natural environment. The site is on Lakeshore Dr. between Bayfield and Mulcaster Streets. Heritage Park features a gazebo, water feature, walkway/paths, changerooms and washrooms, duck pond, gardens, transient boat docking, and parking. Heritage Park represents a significant opportunity to propose a well-designated public waterfront that offers benefits to residents, visitors, business and investors while leaving a legacy of providing the City with an inclusive, high value and high quality premiere destination in a rapidly expanding community. TIMELINE: The Consultant has completed a Master Plan to revitalize the Barrie Heritage Park, a signature landmark of the Waterfront. The Landscape architect will lead the design team that will through the master planning and cost estimates through a two-stage process. As of May 2022, the Heritage Park Master Plan Staff Report was submitted to City of Barrie Council General Committee for consideration, and to Barrie Council summer 2022. Projects will be identified based on capital budget funding allocation spring/summer 2024. Detailed design and construction are forecast in the long-range capital plan within the next five years. *The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
