As of October 13, 2020, this project is in the design phase. An engineer has been selected for the project. Construction is estimated to start in late 2022. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The City of Des Plaines seeks proposals from qualified consultants for preliminary and design engineering services for the Oakton Street Sidepath Project. The project consists of designing a sidepath, for use by both pedestrians and bicyclists, along the north side of Oakton Street between Des Plaines River Road and the Des Plaines River Trail. In addition, a refuge median and beacon improvements are to be included to improve the safety of the existing Des Plaines River Trail crossing of Oakton Street. It is anticipated that the Oakton Street bridge over the Des Plaines River has sufficient existing width to allow for provision of a safe separated ped/bike facility across the existing structure. As an additional note, the north side was selected based upon a general review of the existing conditions. However, if more detailed analysis suggests that there are advantages to providing the sidepath on the south side of Oakton Street, then that is also an option. Right-of-way is anticipated to be needed from the Forest Preserve District regardless of the side of the road selected.
