City Contract Goal : MBE 12, WBE 7 The purpose of this geotechnical investigation is to evaluate the subsurface soil conditions along the alignment and develop geotechnical engineering recommendations for design and construction of waterline by open cut, trenchless, and tunnel methods, as well as for concrete and asphalt pavement reconstruction where the 48 inch diameter waterline will be installed by open cut method. The scope of this geotechnical investigation is summarized below: Drilling and sampling a total thirty-seven geotechnical borings ranging from 15 to 50 feet below existing grade; Soil laboratory testing on selected soil samples; Engineering analyses and recommendations for the installation of waterlines by open cut method, including loadings on pipes, bedding, lateral earth pressure parameters, trench stability, and backfill requirements; Slope stability evaluation of the impact of the waterline trench excavation (short term, construction phase only) along Forbes Road on the east slope of HCFCD Unit A127-00-00; Engineering analyses and recommendations for the installation of waterlines by trenchless method, including loadings on pipes, auger face stability, as well as bedding, lateral earth pressure parameters, trench stability, and backfill requirements for auger pits; Engineering analyses and recommendations for the installation of waterlines by tunnel method, including tunnel access shafts, reaction walls, and tunnel stability; Engineering analyses and recommendations for construction of concrete and asphalt pavements, including thickness design and subgrade preparation; Construction recommendations for installation of waterlines by open cut, trenchless, and tunnel methods, as well as concrete and asphalt pavements. The purpose of this proposed 48-inch water line is to allow the decommissioning of groundwater plants, improving water system pressures, and providing additional surface water in the south and southeastern areas of the City.
