Design Services for East Main Park Development
Proposals are due by 2:00:00 PM (PST), Monday, November 30, 2020 Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission and the City of Ashland are seeking proposals for from a design team for the development of a new park in Ashland, Oregon. The goals of this project are to work closely with APRC staff, Commissioners and community stakeholders to develop the design of a new regional/neighborhood park; preliminary and final plans, specifications, sustainable and low maintenance recommendations, and cost estimates. The design team shall provide schematic design, design development, bidding and construction documents required for the construction of a new park. It is expected that every Ashland park will address the following essential elements of a public space:
-Accessibility - the park will be accessible to all and will provide a variety of uses that will appeal to a diverse population as shown on the conceptual plan.
-Specificity - the park will be designed in a way that will be clear to users and will entail exceptional designs for each park element that complements adjacent elements.
-Functionality - the park will be designed to be aesthetic, inviting and easy to use. Elements will have multiple uses where possible.
-Adaptability - the park will be designed to accommodate many uses and will encourage participant use through creative design and flexible spaces.
-Innovation- the park will be designed in a way that will be low maintenance and limit water usage. The park design should meet the City of Ashland's Climate and Energy Action Plan goals. October 24, 2019 where design elements and neighbor concerns were gathered. Approximately 60 citizens took part in this meeting. The neighbors and stakeholders are generally in favor of a new park with several key elements, which are listed below:
1. Off-leash dog park
2. Bicycle pump track*
3. Bicycle skills park area*
4. Community garden
5. Active and passive play areas
6. Walking trails
7. Open space *The design team should engage with an experienced bicycle park designer as a part of the design process for these areas
