Renovation and addition to an elderly care / assisted living facility in Pembroke, Ontario. Completed plans call for the addition of a 49,000-square-foot, two-story above grade, 29-bed elderly care / assisted living facility; and for the renovation of a elderly care / assisted living facility.

Redevelopment of 160 long-term care beds, which includes an additional 29 beds The project will be done in several phases over a period of approximately three and a half years as follows: Phase 1 - Early/Site Work - All utilities will be affected by the work, requiring relocation of existing and new site services including gas, primary transformer, new emergency generator, and pump room to accommodate new sprinkler system throughout. Phase 2 - Loading Dock - The existing shipping/receiving area will be relocated to accommodate the work requiring a one-storey loading dock addition (70 m2), driveway, and two-storey exit stair addition (25 m2) to the existing D wing. Phase 3 - Addition - Two-storey addition (2,270 m2 per floor) complete with exterior secure courtyard, links to the existing A and D wings and elevator - required for phased relocations and renovations of existing wings. Phase 4 - D Wing Renovation - With completion of the addition, the existing 2-storey D wing will be fully renovated with new mechanical and electrical services (820 m2 per floor). Phase 5 - B and C1 Wing Renovations - A portion of C wing level 1 will be renovated for independent living apartments (400 m2) and the existing 1-storey B wing will be fully renovated (1350 m2). Phase 6 - Sprinkler and IT Work - The remainder of the facility (Dementia Respite, Shalom, and C2 wings will be sprinklered and IT upgrades will be undertaken. TIMELINE: General Contractor has been secured through a prequalification process. Ground breaking ceremony has recently taken place. Construction is expected to take approx. three (3) years to complete. *Award amount was not released for publication, however, the project has been estimated at approx. 59 million. *Funding has been secured under the Ministry's new Construction Funding Program.
