Further transit connections from Union Station to Queen's Quay. Expansion of the existing Union and Queens Quay LRT Stations, and new running tunnel and portal as part of the Waterfront East LRT project from Union Station Queens Quay and Bay Station (Area 1). TIMELINE: As of May 2022, the engineer has completed 30 percent design completion with TTC staff. The TTC and Waterfront Toronto continue to undertake a value engineering exercise to inform design refinements and an updated cost estimate. Additional work is required to assess constructability and coordination risks with other planned and in-progress major infrastructure projects in the vicinity of the Waterfront East LRT (WELRT) alignment, such as the Ontario Line, GO Expansion On Corridor Works, and the Gardiner Expressway Rehabilitation projects. The Toronto City Council has directed the engineering consultant to proceed with design through late 2022 and to undertake a constructability review of the WELRT in relation to these major infrastructure projects, and to report back in Q2 2023. The owner expects the project will be forwarded to Toronto City Council June 2023 including the information gathered from Public Information Centres and design studies and submissions to the Ministry of the Environment through late 2022/early 2023. Tender and construction timing will be determined, pending city council funding approval 2023/2024. *Area 2 is from Queens Quay connection east to Cherry St and is followed separately.
