Addition to a municipal facility in New Bern, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the addition of a 21,484-square-foot, two-story above grade municipal facility.
The City of New Bern now desires to expand the existing structure by adding a 22,000 square foot, two story annex building along the north side of the building. This annex would serve as home for several City departments and would be utilized by both City Staff as well as its citizens. Achieving accessibility goals is a must and will require a complicated balance of connectivity and preservation in the relationship between the annex and the existing historic building. The City is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from architects to provide a full scope of services for the project. The City intends to select a qualified consultant(s) to provide architectural services; permitting assistance; bidding; construction contract administration, and; construction observation services. As of March 22, 2021 construction is underway. An awarded designer is identified. A contractor is not disclosed. Construction will be completed in early fall 2021.
