Renovation of an educational facility in Iowa City, Iowa. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
Project consists of renovating portions of the second floor of the Pharmaceutical Science Research Building (the old Pharmacy Building) for University of Iowa Pharmaceuticals. Work will occur in both the existing 3-story 1961 building (Health Sciences Wing) and the 1996 5-story South Tower. The architectural scope of work consists of demolition and construction activities to renovate the existing Pharmacy Practice Lab into a new open office space, reconstruct the adjacent hallway, and create a new break room out of the existing adjacent classroom. Work will include metal framed gypsum board walls, vinyl and carpeted flooring, acoustical ceiling panels, new plastic laminate case work and solid surface countertops, interior doors, frames, and hardware, and interior painting of new and existing walls, and existing doors and frames in select areas. Demolition and construction activities also include converting three individual existing lab spaces into a single space. Labs will undergo scope of work mostly covered under the State contract for lab casework, including removing and replacing shelving systems, cabinet reconfiguration, and the cleaning of the lab bench countertops. The mechanical/plumbing scope of work consists of modifications of the existing cooling and ventilation systems in the existing Pharmacy Practice Lab to accommodate the new open office. Work includes demolition and replacement of the unit ventilator and fan coil units and installation of an enclosure around the existing steam radiators. The existing building automation system will be extended to serve the new equipment. Demolition and construction activities associated with utility infrastructure modifications to accommodate new equipment in the existing lab spaces. A new blower coil unit will be installed to accommodate the heat generation of new lab equipment. The existing validated building automation controls system will be extended to serve the lab area.
