As of May 19, 2021, an architect has been selected and this project is in the design phase. Berkeley County Government is seeking proposals for engineering & design services to add an additional wing to the current Hill-Finklea Detention Center located in Moncks Corner, SC. The existing detention center currently has 291 beds. The new expansion is intended to be three floors, increasing the bed count to 754 beds. The first floor will contain a Public Lobby, Medical Wing (8 beds), Classification Pod (52 beds) and an Intake Area. The second floor will contain 150 hard, single person cells (maximum security) and a Restrictive Housing Unit of 40 beds. The third floor will contain four different pods, each with 64 beds as well as an Inmate Worker Dorm. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
